Printable Program Summary ![]() Accredited by the National Association of Industrial Technology and administered by the Department of Technology Systems, College of Technology and Computer Science, the BS in Design focuses on academic preparation in the contemporary design practices found in the various engineering and architectural disciplines. The program emphasizes application of state of the art software, digitizing, and product realization/development equipment. In addition, there are many opportunities to gain work experiences such as part-time and temporary jobs and co-op or internship positions. Graduates have the opportunity to work as design professionals or as members of a design team. Many graduates progress to supervise a design team or manage a design project. Graduates meet nationally recognized standards in demonstrating knowledge and skills in applying design practices and drafting concepts to solve a broad and varied range of design problems. Professional opportunities upon graduation are found in a range of engineering and architecture related disciplines. Two concentration options are available: Architectural Technology Concentration A program that prepares individuals to assist architects in developing plans and related documentation and in performing architectural office services. Includes instruction in architectural drafting, computer-assisted drafting and design, construction methods and materials, environmental systems, building codes and standards, structural principles, cost estimation, planning documentation, visual communication skills, display production, and architectural office management. Mechanical Technology Concentration A program that prepares individuals to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of engineers engaged in the design and development phases of a wide variety of projects involving mechanical systems. Includes instruction in principles of mechanics, applications to specific engineering systems, design testing procedures, prototype and operational testing and inspection procedures, manufacturing system-testing procedures, test equipment operation and maintenance, and report preparation. |
