MSOS Distance Education

The MSOS is offered dually as an on-campus degree and via distance education. The MSOS approaches to graduate education are innovative; one method is streamed video lectures which occur as the on-campus students attend class and the distance education students, already working in the safety profession, participate via the internet. Both sets of students participate together via Internet, while the instructor can answer questions live as they arise. This method of instruction allows the on-campus student, typically with little or no practical experience, the opportunity to interact and collaborate on projects with seasoned safety professionals from across the country or the world. Another method is Centra, a net-meeting tool, which allows oral communication and is the method in which we conduct project presentations.

All DE students who are admitted in the MSOS program are professional individuals who are safety practitioners at some capacity or will be doing so after graduation. These are self motivated individuals who are not able to attend the on-campus classes due to the physical distance. Although, it is a challenging task to incorporate the soft skills exercises, similar to the on-campus classes, in the DE curriculum but the DE students mostly have some level of proficiency on these types of skills due to their work experience.
