Ms. Karen De Urquidi 212 Slay Building, 737-1033 deurquidik@ecu.edu In the Engineering Program, students are advised both on academic issues and on career direction. The primary academic advisor is the Coordinator of Advising and Retention who works closely with all engineering students to support academic progress, development, and success. Each engineering student is required to meet with the academic advising contact for an advising session and to obtain the individual registration code. This compulsory procedure helps the academic advisor monitor the student’s progress each semester toward graduation and offer advice in selection of engineering options, electives and other related academic issues. It is also critical for engineering students to develop career
awareness and obtain guidance in engineering career options, student organizations,
professional development, and graduate studies. AT ECU Engineering, this
process begins in freshman year classes which examine the engineering
profession and ethics. Students also meet the engineering faculty in
their first year and learn about their research and career interests.
When students declare a concentration, the concentration faculty take the
lead in developing career awareness and in career advising. |
