Mission & Objectives
Mission
To provide a quality information and computer technology education that serves as foundation for lifelong learning through the study, design, evaluation, and practical application of best practices in computer technology as it is applied to small, medium, and large size organizations. Our graduates identify problems and develop solutions in general telecommunications, data networking, and information systems. Graduates are prepared to assume leadership roles in information technology.
ICT faculty and administration are continuously reviewing the degree program learning outcomes to ensure students are getting the best possible education and training. Three to five years into their careers, our graduates display these skills and professional attributes:
ICT Core Learning Outcomes
- Design, install, configure, and maintain secure information systems though the use and application of current technical concepts and best practices in the core information technologies.
- Demonstrate understanding of technical and interpersonal skills required to develop, plan, implement, and manage complex telecommunication and information system solutions in the user environment.
- Demonstrate an understanding of effective team collaboration and leadership skills and an appreciation for diversity in the workplace.
- Demonstrate professional oral and written communication skills in the creation of effective project plans, network documentation, and technical presentations.
- Demonstrate understanding of the importance of lifelong learning and professional development.
- Ability to differentiate between ethical and unethical behavior including obligations to employers, colleagues, and the public.
- Ability to identify and analyze user needs in the design, creations, evaluation, and administration of LAN, WAN and remote-access services for small networks.
Information Technology Concentration Outcomes
- Assess the impact of telecommunication and information system solutions on the organization business model.
- Demonstrate broad understanding of information technology solutions that supports the organizational mission and operation.
- Demonstrate best practices and standards in web content development, web server installation and configuration, database integration, and security issues.
Information Security Concentration Outcomes
- Demonstrate understanding of best practices and standard in securing and managing network infrastructures to protect productivity and reduce cost. Implement perimeter security, virtual private networks, intrusion protection.
- Demonstrate understanding of Network and Internet based security applications and standards such as; cryptography, encryption, hash functions, digital signatures, and key exchanges.
- Demonstrate understanding of Information assurance principles, devices, and applications. Problem solving on various operating system and network technologies.
Computer Networking Concentration Outcomes
- Demonstrate understanding of concepts and technologies to interconnect multiple LANs using advanced switching technologies, protocols, and applications.
- Demonstrate best practices and standards in Installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of networks, quality of service, virtual private networks, and broadband technologies for enterprise organizations.
- Demonstrate understanding of network and inter-network routing protocols and technologies, network performance considerations, and traffic control over LAN or WAN.
