Mission & Objectives

Program Mission

The mission of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology undergraduate degree is to prepare technical and/or management oriented professionals for employment in business, industry, education, and government whose duties and responsibilities primarily involve the management, operation, and maintenance of complex technological systems.

Program Goals and Objectives

  • Graduates will find employment within the field of Industrial Technology within their first year.
  • Graduates will continue to work within the field of Industrial Technology.
  • Graduates are adequately prepared for advancement within the field of Industrial Technology.

Program Definition

By definition, the Industrial Technology program leads to a Bachelor of Science degree administered by the Department of Technology Systems. This program exists to provide professionals for the Industrial Technology Industry with a combination of technical, business, and communication skills who are involved with the:

  • Application of theories, concepts, and principles found in the humanities and the social and behavioral sciences, including a thorough grounding in communication skills.
  • Understanding of the theories and the ability to apply the principles and concepts of mathematics and science and the application of computer fundamentals.
  • Application of concepts derived from, and current skills developed in, a variety of technical and related disciplines.
  • Completion of a concentration in either Architectural Technology, Mechanical Technology, Industrial Distribution and Logistics, Information & Computer Technology, Manufacturing Systems, Bioprocess Manufacturing, or Industrial Supervision.

Program Outcomes

  • Students will demonstrate the capabilities of an Industrial Technologist in an industrial setting.
  • Students will demonstrate a professional ethics and understanding of the human relations skills needed to succeed in a professional environment.
  • Students will demonstrate skills in oral and written communication both to individuals and groups in business and industry in a professional manner.
  • Students will demonstrate fundamental and special techniques for supervising people in the industrial or business work place.
  • Students will apply project management skills and techniques in an industrial setting, as well as develop understanding of managing project teams, performance metrics and technical requirements in planning and scheduling.
  • Students will evaluate economic analysis of technology alternatives, including: valuation techniques; time value of money; cash flow analysis; cost estimation; taxes and depreciation; operations planning and control; project evaluation; accounting and budgeting tools
  • Students will demonstrate a basic understanding of statistical measures, tools, and methods employed to analyze and control variation in industrial processes
