  • An application of technical communications strategies, critical thinking and problem solving skills, and research methods to the field of occupational safety

SAFT 6310 - Loss Prevention and Workers’ Compensation

  • Credit Hours: 3
  • Advanced study of risk management strategies in workers compensation system in reducing corporate financial losses. An overview of insurance and Commercial General Liability

SAFT 6402 - Applied Safety Management

  • Credit Hours: 3
  • Corequisites/Prerequisites: SAFT 6040
  • Practical application of principles of supervisory safety management as related to supervision at various levels in line organization of manufacturing, construction, and service industries. Application of statistical quality control and assurance systems in a technology context including manufacturing, construction, and electronics.

SAFT 6250 - Occupational Ergonomics

  • Credit Hours: 3
  • Corequisites/Prerequisites: SAFT 6040
  • Focus on dimensions of occupational ergonomics practice and applications intended to reduce worker/hardware/ environmental interface problems in order to enhance worker performance while minimizing adverse physiological effects.

EHST 6700 - Industrial Hygiene Application

  • Credit Hours: 3
  • Principles of evaluating and controlling work environment. Emphasis on resolving occupational health problems

SAFT 6288 - Contemporary Issues in Occupational Safety

  • Credit Hours: 3

SAFT 6290 - Fire Protection and Prevention

  • Credit Hours: 3
  • Corequisites/Prerequisites: SAFT 6040
  • Prevention and control of fires through building construction, life safety code compliance, detection and alarm, and extinguishing methods. Examines occupancy types and fuels.

SAFT 6320 - HAZMAT and Environmental Operations

  • Credit Hours: 3
  • Corequisites/Prerequisites: SAFT 6040
  • Measures applicable to handling, storage, and transportation of hazardous materials and disposal of waste. Examination of emergency and disaster preparedness models.

SAFT 6282 - Design for Safety and the Environment

  • Credit Hours: 3

  • Overview and application of strategy formulation, technical tools, and management tactics required to integrate safety and environmental principles into earliest life-cycle stages of products, processes, and technologies.

SAFT 6410 - System Safety Analysis

  • Applications-oriented study of recognition and evaluation of hazards in industrial environment. Formulation of control systems for alleviation of work related accidents and injuries.

SAFT 6901 - Special Topics in Occupational Safety

  • Credit Hours: 3
  • Corequisites/Prerequisites: SAFT 6040
  • May be repeated for credit with consent of director of graduate studies. May count maximum 6 semester hours.
  • Research in trends, problems, and issues related to topics in occupational safety.

SAFT 6902 - Special Topics in Occupational Safety (2)

  • Credit Hours: 2
  • This course covers the Code of Federal Regulations 1926, and other standards and regulations that affect the construction industry. Emphasis on recognition, analysis, and corrective action. Principles of construction safety management, project implementation, and managing subcontractors.
