Research Interests:

The major theme of my research is to develop biohybrid devices using a biobased engineering approach.  Highly complex and sophisticated systems found in nature may be developed into tools that could potentially be integrated into useful devices.  One example is to incorporate biological motor proteins, such as kinesin, into microdevices.  Kinesin motor proteins are remarkable nanoscale motors that are involved with intracellular transport.  The primary motivation for developing kinesin-based devices is their potential use in creating highly functional devices at the micro- and nanoscale.  Some examples include active transport and separation systems, biosensors, microgenerators, and micropumps.
