The Department of Engineering is dedicated to support our students with effective advising and support, including tutoring and resolution of issues which impact student success.  We care about every student and work to develop a positive and motivational environment.  The Coordinator of Advising and Retention is a full time engineering faculty member who  is designated to lead these efforts.

Each semester, engineering students are required to meet with the academic advisor for an advising session and to obtain an individual code which allows them to register for classes. This compulsory procedure helps the academic advisor monitor the student's progress toward graduation and offer advice in selection of engineering options, electives and other related academic issues.  During this meeting, the appropriate flow chart (link on this page) is reviewed and used as an academic road map.

Our engineering students also develop career awareness and receive guidance to make decisions about:

  • Student organizations
  • Engineering career options and concentrations
  • Professional development, job search, and internships
  • Graduate Schools and programs

At ECU Engineering, this process begins in freshman year classes which examine the engineering profession and ethics. Students also meet the engineering faculty in their first year and learn about their research and career interests. When students declare a concentration, the faculty within that concentration takes the lead in developing career awareness and in career advising.
