Department of Computer Science

According to the Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics, by 2016 computer programmers, software engineering and other computer related professions will be among the fastest growing occupations.  Computer and mathematical science occupations are expected to increase by nearly 25% during this period, higher than most any other category.

The Computer Science Department offers four degree programs to meet the needs of the 21st century:

Undergraduate Degrees

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree program provides an emphasis on practical skills in problem solving that can be applied in diverse professional settings. The focus of the program is to produce well-rounded graduates with good technical and communication skills who are ready to assume employment in a variety of business and technical environments. Students in the B.A. program have an opportunity to integrate their study of computer science with a career track emphasis in fields such as high technology, business, and health information systems.

The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree program is a comprehensive program that prepares students for either professional employment in the field or for further studies in graduate school. It provides a more comprehensive background in mathematics, science and underlying principles of computer science.

Graduate Degrees

The Department of Computer Science also offers the Master of Science degree in Computer Science and the Master of Science degree in Software Engineering.  The MS in Computer Science is designed for individuals who want to expand their knowledge and experience in computer science either to pursue employment or to later pursue a Ph.D. degree.

The MS in Software Engineering is designed for individuals who want to expand their knowledge and experience in software development, software testing, and other areas of software engineering in order to pursue employment or to pursue a Ph.D. degree.

Industry Outreach

The Computer Science Department maintains an active dialog with its industrial supporters and alumni through advisory boards and by other means in order to make sure that all of its programs remain relevant and current.
