Department of Engineering
Today’s technology
demands advanced and
unique engineering
skills.
The Engineering
Program at East
Carolina University
provides a unique
preparation for a
career in the
exciting world of
engineering. ECU’s
Engineering program
differs from many
other engineering
program by: (1)
emphasizing the
application of
engineering
knowledge in solving
real-world problems
and by engaging in
hands-on engineering
activities beginning
in the first
semester; (2)
blending math and
science content with
engineering courses,
software, and labs
to offer a
curriculum that puts
theory into
practice; (3)
providing an
environment in which
students work very
closely with faculty
and classmates in a
team-based process
that promotes
learning and
success. From the
first day in the
program, the focus
is on hands-on
experiences in
real-world
engineering
projects. Team-based
learning develops
leadership,
interpersonal, and
team problem solving
skills. Graduates
are prepared to
succeed and grow in
applying
twenty-first-century
technology to
improve society and
organizational
performance. The
B.S. in Engineering
curriculum features
a common core that
develops fundamental
engineering skills
and three
concentrations that
build specialized
knowledge: systems
engineering,
bioengineering and
engineering
management.
